Fresh cosmetics from the Myrto Manufactory

What is fresh cosmetics?

Conventional cosmetics have a shelf life of at least 3 years. You can tell this on the packaging label by the symbol of the opened cream jar with the additional information 3, 6 or 12 months. The number of months indicates how long the product is guaranteed to last after opening. The long shelf life of over 3 years is particularly advantageous for industrial cosmetics manufacturers who supply the mass market. This means that large quantities with a practically unlimited shelf life can be produced. Wholesale and retail also benefit from this, as long storage times are also not a problem. To make this possible, conventional cosmetics are usually full of questionable ingredients that extend the shelf life - without taking skin compatibility into account.

In contrast, all myrto products are fresh cosmetics with a shorter shelf life and a best-before date on the packaging label. This means we do not use potentially irritating synthetic preservatives or other questionable ingredients. Instead, we rely on the use of high-quality, as natural as possible ingredients. All myrto products are freshly made in small quantities with a lot of manual work exclusively in our factory.

Free from synthetic, skin-irritating preservatives

All myrto products are fresh cosmetics. We rely on the use of fresh, natural ingredients that are rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other nutrients and have a positive effect on the skin. We do not use common preservatives with their side effects. These additives often trigger skin irritations such as redness, itching or flaky skin. They are therefore rightly highly controversial. Commonly used and approved preservatives include:

  • Parabens (such as methylparaben, ethylparaben)
  • phenoxyethanol
  • Benzoic acid and its salts, e.g. sodium benzoate
  • benzyl alcohol
  • dehydroacetic acid
  • Formaldehyde and formaldehyde releasers (such as DMDM hydantoin, imidazolidinyl urea)
  • Ethylhexylglycerin
  • caprylyl glycol
  • Sorbic acid and its salts, e.g. potassium sorbate
  • phenoxyethanol

In order to avoid potentially irritating preservatives, some of which are also approved for natural cosmetics, at myrto we use moisturizing pentylene glycol from sugar cane and a plant-based combination of organic acids. Anisic acid and levulinic acid are used. Anisic acid is obtained from star anise, levulinic acid from the fruit sugars of GMO-free corn starch. Both regulate the skin's pH value and thus improve the skin's own moisture retention. In addition to their nourishing properties, both organic acids have an antimicrobial effect against bacteria, fungi and yeasts. This enables organic and natural cosmetics that are optimally compatible with the skin and can rightly be advertised as "free of preservatives".

Free from harmful chemicals

No harmful chemicals are used in myrto natural cosmetics. We consistently avoid PEG emulsifiers, stabilizers, silicones, formaldehyde, sodium laureth sulfate (SLS), phthalates, microplastics, synthetic colors and fragrances and other environmentally harmful substances. Instead, we rely on purely natural and plant-based active ingredients.

What characterizes industrial cosmetics production?

Industrial cosmetics production is characterized by several features that contrast with the artisanal production of cosmetics in factories:

  • Mass production: Industrial cosmetics production takes place in large quantities, often in automated production facilities. This enables lower manufacturing costs for each individual product. The products often only reach the consumer after intermediate sales via wholesalers and retailers and after long storage periods.
  • Synthetic and "nature-identical" preservatives: In order to enable mass production, industrial cosmetics manufacturers mainly use synthetic preservatives, which also include "nature-identical" preservatives, as well as other questionable and unnecessary additives to extend the shelf life.
  • Standardized formulations: Industrial cosmetics manufacturing uses standardized formulations that target a large group of buyers. This facilitates mass production.
  • Cost optimization: In order to remain competitive, industrial cosmetics production is primarily about cost optimization. Therefore, automated and fast work processes are the focus. The ingredients are processed as quickly as possible and, above all, should be inexpensive to purchase.

What characterizes the fresh cosmetics from our factory?

Our myrto cosmetics, which we produce in our factory, differ in essential aspects from industrially produced cosmetics:

Fresh cosmetics from the Myrto Manufactory
  • Handcraft: In our factory, the craftsmanship process is at the heart of production. This involves largely natural products that consist of the highest quality ingredients. The processing is done as gently as possible and with as much time as a high-quality manufactured product requires. The focus here is on sustainability and the quality of the ingredients.
  • Small batches: We continually manufacture all myrto products fresh in small batches. We then send the goods to our customers directly from our factory - without the long storage and sales times that conventional retailers have. Since we do not use synthetic preservatives in our fresh cosmetics in order to optimize skin compatibility, myrto products should be used up within their recommended use period with best-before date.
  • High-quality and natural ingredients: We focus on the quality of the ingredients and select the highest quality raw materials that are known for their effectiveness and tolerability. The cold-pressed plant oils we use come from controlled organic cultivation or from wild collections. In addition, we use highly pure CO2 plant extracts that are extracted solvent-free using natural spring carbonic acid and gently processed at low temperatures. They contain the holistic spectrum of effects of a plant - for healthy, long-term youthful skin. Due to the gentle processing and the particularly skin-friendly ingredients without unnecessary additives, myrto products are particularly low in irritation.
  • Individuality through tailor-made formulations: In contrast to mass production, the artisanal production of myrto natural cosmetics offers the opportunity to develop tailor-made recipes. This makes it possible to offer products that are optimally compatible with the skin and adapted to individual requirements.
  • Sustainability and ethics: We attach particular importance to sustainability and ethics in the production of myrto products. This includes a personal approach, production that is as environmentally friendly as possible, fair working conditions and the avoidance of harmful ingredients.
