Natural Curl Care
Curls are considered a sign of health and vitality. Voluminous perms are also currently popular again. Silky waves and corkscrew curls are real eye-catchers. However, curls hardly reflect light and are less shiny than straight hair, where the outer cuticle layer of the hair fiber appears smooth under the microscope. In contrast, the cuticle layer of curly hair is not closed, and the hair surface looks like an opened pine cone. Curls tend to be straw-like dryness and frizz. It's not just women who have to struggle with this, men and children also need the right curl care with the right styling.
What type of curls do you have?
Depending on the thickness of the hair fiber, the bounce of the curls and their structure, there are basically three different types of curls:
Curl type 1 - Fine curly hair usually lies close to the head. It has only a slight S-shaped wave that falls out relatively quickly. This hair type needs more volume, definition of the waves and natural hold of the hairstyle.
Curl type 2 - Curly hair with a thicker hair diameter has significantly more resistant waves. The cuticle of the hair fiber is rough. Therefore, this hair type tends to be dry and frizz.
Curl type 3 - Strongly curly hair is characterized by strong curls and even corkscrew curls. This type of curl has a lot of volume, the curls have bounce and hold. Depending on the structure of the curls, the hairstyle can look frizzy, undefined or frizzy without special additional care. The thicker and more curly the hair, the more extensive the care should be: thick, strong curls need a lot of moisturizing and smoothing leave-in care.
How to comb curly hair correctly
Before washing your hair, you should comb your curls with a wide-toothed comb, especially if there might be styling residue in your hair. Start at the tips and slowly work your way to the roots so that no hair is pulled out or broken. To prevent your curls from becoming unnecessarily matted or tangled, you can then gently brush them with a brush, such as the Tangle Teezer.
After washing your hair, you should not rub your curls or waves, but rather knead them gently with a microfiber cloth. Wet hair should not be combed if possible, as it is particularly susceptible to breakage and split ends.
How to wash curly hair properly
The key to carefree, bouncy curls and waves is to use gentle, natural cosmetic hair shampoos without silicones. They must not remove any more moisture from the already dry hair and must not attack the protective fatty acid layer of the hair fiber. Organic shampoos based on detergent amino acids are ideal for carefree curls that curl beautifully. These plant-based foaming agents are the plant-based surfactants that are gentlest on the hair and scalp, but they are also by far the most expensive.
Hydrating plant extracts such as wheat proteins or plant keratin are particularly recommended for curls. Wheat proteins are contained in all myrto organic shampoos. They wrap themselves weightlessly around each hair fiber like a wafer-thin film, smooth the open cuticle layer of curls and repair small hair cracks. Hydrolyzed proteins from grains keep wavy hair elastic, protect it from drying out and breakage. Wheat proteins also ensure more shine and natural hair fullness.
Oily care ingredients in curly hair shampoos
Be careful with oily care products in a shampoo for fine curls! Oils give thick, unruly and curly hair great shine, bounce and defined structure. However, fine curly hair can only tolerate minimal amounts of oily care products or none at all. Oils can easily weigh fine hair down and make the roots look flat. For fine waves and curls, we therefore recommend the minimalist organic shampoo Ultramild Free . Thick curly hair can tolerate significantly more oily care products and should preferably be washed with the organic shampoo Sea Buckthorn Chia .
heat protection for curls
You can achieve natural heat protection for beautifully defined, full and slightly shiny waves with the Bio Finisher Glossing Gel with hydrating aloe vera, the plant-based micronutrient betaine and shine-enhancing organic babassu oil, which we source from a Brazilian fair trade women's project.
Allow curls to air dry if possible
After washing, you should leave natural curls and perms to air if possible, after you have pre-dried them with a towel by kneading them. It is best to avoid blow-drying, as the heat from the blow-dryer removes moisture from the hair. In the cold season or when you are in a hurry, you should knead the Bio Finisher into the pre-dried hair as heat protection before you blow-dry your curls briefly with a diffuser attachment on a low temperature setting.
Leave-in Conditioner & Hair Treatment
The myrto organic conditioners are leave-in hair creams that smooth the rough cuticle layer of the curly hair fiber after washing in damp or dry hair to refresh the natural styling. The myrto conditioners contain high levels of valuable cold-pressed organic plant oils instead of the usual palm oil derivatives that are hidden in emulsifiers or consistency agents. Beta-glucan from oats deeply moisturizes the hair, makes it more resistant to breakage, thickens and stabilizes the hair shaft without weighing it down.
You should treat your curls to the Pomegranate Organic Hair Mask once a week to enhance the curls' healthy shine and improve combability. You will notice how much better your hair feels, how your hair structure strengthens and how the frizz disappears.
curl styling
If you then massage the organic antistatic hair oil or the organic argan hair wax very sparingly onto the ends, even the last split ends will no longer stand a chance. Your hair ends will simply look well-groomed and you won't have to keep getting them cut.
When using the organic conditioner and the organic hair treatment, make sure to avoid applying about a hand's width to your scalp and hairline so as not to strain the roots and flatten the volume. You can knead the conditioner and the hair treatment into damp, freshly washed hair as well as dry hair. Leave the treatment in your hair for as long as possible and then wash it out. For maximum care, shine and beautifully defined waves, use the conditioner or hair mask as a leave-in hair cream. This way, the valuable care ingredients can optimally showcase your curls.
