5 Care Tips for Sun-Damaged Hair
Excessive exposure to sunlight, chlorine and salt water - these factors dry out your hair and attack the protective cuticle layer of the hair fiber. They make the hairstyle straw-like, brittle and dull, prone to split ends and hair breakage. With the following 5 care tips, we show you how to best prevent hair damage in the summer and which countermeasures you can take to restore the healthy hair structure of damaged summer hair.
Tip 1 - Mild moisturizing shampoo for dry hair
After a sunny day at the sea or swimming pool, your hair needs a moisturizing shampoo that cleanses as gently as possible while still nourishing it - without aggressive foaming agents (surfactants), without silicones and without alcohol. If your hair feels "squeaky clean" after cleaning, your shampoo was much too harsh. This shows that the foaming agents have already attacked the protective fatty acid layer of the hair fiber. This natural protective layer protects the hair from drying out and external damage.
The surfactant sodium coco sulfate used in almost all organic shampoos is one such aggressive foaming agent. Make sure to avoid this ingredient at all costs. It is best to look closely at the ingredients of your shampoo, which are declared on the INCI list. The list on the label contains all ingredients in descending order of quantity.
All myrto organic shampoos are based on purely plant-based, detergent amino acids. The gentle foaming agents in the maximum possible concentration soothe the irritated scalp and strengthen its moisture barrier with a skin-neutral pH value of 5.0 - 5.2. Above all, they preserve the protective fatty acid layer of the hair fiber and thus prevent dryness and external damage.
Selected antioxidant plant ingredients, tailored to your individual hair type or your specific hair problem, improve the elasticity of the hair and prevent hair loss. All 7 myrto organic shampoos are free of drying alcohol. They counteract hair breakage and ensure resilient, healthy and naturally full hair.
Tip 2 - Vitalizing Leave-in Hair Treatment
If your hair is extremely dry, lifeless, brittle or unruly after an extended summer holiday by the sea, the best way to revitalize it is with a deep-acting organic hair treatment - without unnecessary and harmful additives such as silicones, quaternary ammonium compounds (quats, QAVs), emulsifiers or alcohol. Here, too, it is worth taking a closer look at the ingredients list with all the ingredients included.
We recommend the Organic Pomegranate Hair Mask as a leave-in hair treatment without rinsing. This rich hair mask contains regenerating pomegranate extract, smoothing shea butter and nourishing macadamia nut oil. The powerful natural ingredient beta-glucan from the oat germ layer ensures that the hair becomes more elastic and resilient. The emulsifier-free combination of active ingredients smoothes the natural cuticle layer of the hair surface for the long term, so that your hair regains its naturally healthy shine and becomes easier to comb.
While the hair mask is usually used once a week, if your hair is very damaged you should use it after every wash. Avoid applying at least a hand's width to the roots, as too much care product will weigh down your hairstyle. It will reduce volume and make your hair look stringy, greasy and flat. The hair mask should be used very sparingly: 1-2 pumps are enough. Here too, less is more.
You can achieve a particularly intensive effect if you knead the hair treatment into damp or dry hair strand by strand. Simply leave the nourishing ingredients in your hair as a deep-acting leave-in. Alternatively, you can leave the hair mask on for at least 30 minutes under a towel and then wash it out - but not for longer than a minute so that the valuable nourishing ingredients are not completely washed out again.
Tip 3 - Finisher Glossing Gel for heat protection & shine
The Bio Finisher Glossing Gel is ideal as heat protection and for natural styling for damaged hair. This nourishing hair gel prevents your hair from fading and drying out. The alcohol-free gel coats the hair fiber, making it smoother, more elastic and more resistant to breakage. Plant proteins with a keratin-like effect strengthen the outer keratin scales of the hair surface. Applied before sunbathing, the Glossing Finisher prevents hair from fading and drying out. This light hair gel moisturizes and smoothes brittle and structurally damaged hair. Before a day at the beach, the Glossing Gel is kneaded into the hair in the morning - and repeated during the day as needed. An additional head covering prevents sunburn in the crown area.
Tip 4 - Hair oil against split ends, static hair and frizz
The easiest way to prevent split ends is to apply hair oil very sparingly to the ends of your hair. Massage the hair oil into the wet or dry ends. To avoid weighing down your hairstyle, use very little; 2-3 drops are more than enough. If you have thick or curly hair, a much more generous amount of hair oil will allow you to create practical wet-look hairstyles, shiny Botticelli curls or beach waves.
The Bio Antistatic Hair Oil has a variety of important functions: It smoothes the roughened cuticle of the damaged hair fiber. It has an antistatic effect by neutralizing the electrical surface tension and thus taming flyaway hair. It improves moisture retention. It makes the hair easier to comb, thus counteracting frizz and giving the hair a fine, silky shine. Natural oils such as macadamia, babassu or jojoba also offer light, natural UV protection.
When using it, make sure not to overdo it. If you rub just one or two drops between your hands and then gently stroke the top layer of hair, you can tame charged, frizzy (frizz) and flyaway hair without weighing down your hairstyle. Do not apply the hair oil directly to the roots of your hair, but stay at least a hand's width away from the roots. Only start where the strand of hair becomes difficult to comb. Otherwise, your styling will look slightly stringy and greasy, weighed down and lacking in volume. The reason for this is simple: the sebaceous glands in our scalp produce their own moisturizing lipids, which ensure that the hair fibers at the roots are smoothed, easy to comb and protected from drying out.
Tip 5 - Time out for straighteners, curling irons and hair dryers
To avoid drying out your sun-damaged hair even further after your summer vacation, leave the curling iron, straightener or hairdryer aside as often as possible. Instead, dry your hair in the air in summer temperatures. The heat from a hairdryer not only dries out your hair, but also your scalp unnecessarily and can irritate it. Pat your hair dry carefully with a towel and avoid rubbing vigorously. This roughens the smoothing cuticle layer of the hair surface, making the hair even drier and brittle. If you are in a hurry or your hair styling requires a hairdryer, straightener or curling iron for once, be sure to apply a heat protector such as our Bio Glossing Finisher Gel beforehand. This organic hair styling product also ensures more natural fullness. Also make sure that your hair styling devices are equipped with a hair-friendly ceramic coating, diffuser and low temperature selection.
With these care tips, your hair will stay healthy, shiny and resilient even in summer.
