squalane
squalane
The plant-based squalane we use is obtained from cold-pressed olives. It is very similar to the unsaturated squalene found in natural sebum, which is an important component of the skin barrier (hydrolipid film) at around 12%. Since unsaturated squalene would quickly oxidize on the skin, squalane is used instead in high-quality cosmetics in its hydrogenated, i.e. saturated, form.
- Squalane protects the skin from moisture loss.
- has a skin-identical composition, it is therefore extremely skin-compatible.
- improves the absorption of other active ingredients.
- leaves skin feeling soft and velvety without being greasy.
- has antioxidant properties, it neutralizes cell-damaging free radicals that accelerate skin aging.
- Squalane is non-comedogenic, which means it does not clog pores.
- inhibits excessive sebum production, therefore it is particularly recommended for impure skin or acne.
