Licorice is best known in the form of licorice, which is made from thickened root juice. The licorice plant is an anti-inflammatory medicinal plant that has been shown to soothe skin irritations, reduce itching and promote wound healing. It has been used in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine for many centuries.
The perennial licorice plant is originally native to the Mediterranean region and western Asia. Today it is grown not only in Spain, France and Italy, but also in Asia, Australia and America. The purple or white flowering licorice plant with its feathery leaves belongs to the Fabaceae family. It can grow up to 1.50 metres tall and has a yellow, woody root with a variety of different active substances. Effects of Licorice Tea
The healing tea made from licorice root has an expectorant effect and relieves coughing. Licorice tea is also highly recommended for gastrointestinal complaints due to its antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties. However, like other medicinal plants, licorice tea should not be taken for long periods of time or too often, as it can cause blood pressure to rise if overdosed.

Liquorice root extract in cosmetics has proven particularly effective in the treatment of skin diseases such as rosacea, atopic dermatitis (neurodermatitis) or perioral dermatitis, in which the skin is very irritated, red and rough.
