Glycerin (vegetable, palm oil free)
Glycerin is a natural component of oils and fats as well as of the human metabolism. It is obtained by breaking down triglycerides into glycerin and fatty acids. The glycerin used in our myrto products is obtained from pure vegetable oils such as rapeseed or coconut and is 100% palm oil-free.
Glycerin is an effective and skin-friendly moisturizer. As a natural component of the skin's own moisturizing system (Natural Moisturizing Factor = NMF), it increases the skin's elasticity. Glycerin also stabilizes the skin's barrier function and has been proven to reduce transepidermal moisture loss. Glycerin is water-attracting (hygroscopic), it improves the tolerability of shampoos containing surfactants.
The moisturizing effect of glycerin has been proven for use in concentrations of up to 10%. Only at much higher concentrations of over 30% in a product does glycerin have a drying effect. Therefore, make sure that glycerin is not listed at the top of the ingredients list in your cosmetics. In myrto products, the glycerin content is no more than 3%.
