babassu oil

Babassu oil ( Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil) - from controlled organic cultivation and fair trade origin

Origin & Production

This natural organic babassu oil comes from the hard, nut-like fruits of the babassu palm, native to the Brazilian Amazon. The palm tree, which can grow up to 30 meters tall, bears stone fruits, from whose kernels the oil is cold-pressed, decanted, and purely mechanically filtered – thus preserving all its valuable ingredients.

Our virgin babassu oil is golden yellow, has a subtle nutty scent, and solidifies below 24°C. It melts gently at body temperature, leaving a silky-soft, non-greasy feeling on the skin.

Effect on skin & hair

Fast absorption & cooling effect:
Babassu oil is absorbed particularly quickly and provides a pleasantly cooling feeling on the skin.

Soothing for impurities:
The lauric acid it contains has been proven to have an anti-inflammatory effect and can have a regulating effect on skin impurities.

Moisture protection:
It strengthens the natural skin barrier, protects dry skin from moisture loss and creates a wafer-thin, breathable protective film against environmental influences.

Antioxidant cell protection:
With its high content of vitamin E tocotrienols, babassu oil has antioxidant properties and can slow down natural skin aging.

Care for hair & scalp:
Babassu oil strengthens the hair structure, adds shine and improves combability without weighing the hair down.

Safe during pregnancy & baby care

Babassu oil is a very well-tolerated, purely plant-based skincare oil – ideal even during pregnancy. It contains neither essential oils nor hormone-disrupting substances, making it ideal for sensitive skin.
Thanks to its soothing and moisturizing properties, babassu oil is even traditionally used in baby care.

Origin & social commitment

Our babassu oil comes from a fair trade project run by the women's cooperative COPPALI in northeastern Brazil. Around 500 families there make their living from the traditional harvesting and processing of babassu fruits.

Through this cooperation, the so-called “babassu crackers” receive prices up to 40% higher than on the local market.

The use of the babassu palm is holistic and sustainable:

  • Wood and leaves are used to build houses
  • Fibers are used to make everyday objects
  • Leaves fertilize the fields
  • The shell is processed into biochar
  • The pulp nourishes children
  • The press cake from oil production serves as protein-rich animal feed

Is babassu oil suitable for sensitive or blemish-prone skin?

Yes, absolutely. Babassu oil has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties thanks to its high lauric acid content. It's ideal for blemished, irritated, or sensitive skin and helps the skin regain its natural balance – without irritating or drying it out.

Does babassu oil leave a greasy residue on the skin or clog pores?

No, babassu oil has a light texture, absorbs quickly, and doesn't leave a greasy residue. It's non-comedogenic (meaning it doesn't clog pores), making it ideal for combination and oily skin types.
