What helps against impure skin?

Skin imperfections usually occur during times of hormonal fluctuations. Unsightly pimples, blackheads and, in extreme cases, acne are not only a nuisance during puberty. In adults over 30, the sebaceous glands can also produce too much sebum, become clogged and inflamed.

Causes of impure skin

The causes of impure skin are complex, sometimes genetic or psychological. These are some of the most common causes:

  • Hormonal changes
Especially during puberty, during or before menstruation (premenstrual syndrome), during pregnancy or during menopause, the skin condition deteriorates and blemishes such as blackheads and pimples appear more frequently.
  • Chronic stress
Chronic stress can disrupt hormonal balance and weaken the immune system, leading to increased inflammation in the skin area.
  • inheritance
The predisposition to impure skin can be at least partly genetic.
  • medications
Side effects of medications such as steroids can increase the skin's production of sebum, leading to blemishes and pimples.
  • environmental factors
Urban pollution from pollutants such as nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, particulate matter and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) can severely affect air quality in urban areas and cause chronic skin problems such as blackheads or pimples.
  • Nutrition
An unbalanced diet that contains little fresh food, lots of sugar, saturated, hydrogenated or highly heated fats can lead to skin problems, as can the multitude of additives in processed ready meals.
  • Comedogenic ingredients
Comedogenic ingredients in cosmetics promote the formation of comedones (blackheads). These are clogged pores that can be caused by excess sebum, dead skin cells or impurities. Mineral oil-based ingredients, lanolin, wool wax alcohol, many emulsifiers and even coconut oil are considered comedogenic, although the skin's reaction to these can vary from individual to individual.
  • emulsifiers
Emulsifiers not only combine the oily and watery phases in your cosmetics, but they also combine with the lipids (fats) of the skin barrier and break them down. The skin then becomes more prone to irritation and dryness. A weakened skin barrier also promotes blackheads and pimples.

Tips for dealing with impure skin

To get rid of impurities, blackheads and pimples in the long term, you should take a holistic approach. Here are some important tips:

Pay attention to your diet

Fast food, dairy products, white sugar and white flour products impair healthy intestinal flora. They hinder your body's detoxification of waste products through digestion. Several studies have found a clear connection between milk consumption and the occurrence of acne. A French study from 2020 also confirms a significant correlation between the consumption of chocolate and sweets and the risk of acne. According to the study, a portion of fatty and sweet products such as chocolate bars or cake increases the risk of acne by 50%. In addition to fast food, wheat pasta, potatoes, saturated fats and fats with a high proportion of omega-6 fatty acids are also cited as acne risk factors in the diet.

Therefore, instead of fast food, you should eat home-made, fresh raw food, fruit and vegetables that have plenty of fiber with a high fiber content. There should be breaks of several hours between meals to allow the intestines to rest. Instead of sugary soft drinks, prefer water or unsweetened tea. If you manage to leave out additives and toxins in your diet and instead eat fresh, unprocessed food (clean eating), your skin problems will soon improve significantly.

Avoid nicotine and alcohol

Other skin enemies are nicotine and alcohol. They are potentially responsible for enlarged pores, pimples and skin blemishes, as well as premature signs of aging and sagging skin.

Make sure you get enough exercise and physical activity

Regular exercise, preferably in the fresh air, is also important for clear skin. This also helps counteract excess weight caused by a lack of exercise.

Avoid unnecessary constant stress

Constant stress not only weakens our body's natural detoxification process, it also has a negative effect on our entire organism. A little more calmness in everyday life can therefore have a positive effect on our skin.

If possible, do not take medications for long periods of time

You should only take medication in an emergency and temporarily, because just like the contraceptive pill, medication can also destabilize the body's hormonal balance as a side effect.

Minimize the environmental impact on your skin

Pollutants that we ingest through the air, water or food are excreted through our skin. Since the skin is our largest excretory organ, this leads to impurities.

Be careful with peelings

If your skin is already inflamed, peeling can make redness, irritation and swelling worse. Abrasive peeling particles or fruit acids may remove dead skin from the skin, but they can remove the outermost layer of skin and weaken the skin barrier. Peelings make it harder for spots to heal. They can spread bacteria and increase the risk of scarring. Peelings are particularly problematic for sensitive skin. Our tip: only use a peeling with fine white or green clay every 10 to 14 days at most. Less is more!

Use non-comedogenic facial care without emulsifiers

Our skin's natural protective layer consists of lipids (fats). This barrier layer protects the skin from environmental pollutants and bacteria that penetrate from the outside and cause inflammatory pimples and blemishes. Aggressive surfactants and emulsifiers in cosmetics destroy your skin's protective lipid barrier. Therefore, all myrto facial care products contain only non-comedogenic ingredients and no emulsifiers to strengthen the skin barrier. This anti-inflammatory, effective and minimalist care relieves redness and soothes sensitive and blemished skin.

Facial care without palm oil for sensitive skin

The myrto organic grape seed facial care range for impure and sensitive combination skin does not contain any emulsifiers or harsh surfactants. It is rich in cold-pressed organic grape seed, jojoba and argan oil. These plant oils are anti-comedogenic. This means that they counteract impurities, pimples and blackheads. White mineral clay soothes the skin and inhibits inflammation. Like the entire myrto facial care range, the grape seed range for sensitive combination skin does not contain any fragrances, alcohol or other additives that can irritate sensitive skin.
