You've probably already noticed that myrto doesn't have a special men's care range. Our packaging is not only minimalist in its aesthetic, but also neither particularly feminine nor masculine. In this article, we explain why that is - namely, why all of our products are unisex, meaning they are equally suitable for men and women. We don't think that men generally need different products.

What is the difference between men’s skin and women’s skin?

Due to their higher testosterone levels, men have skin that is around 15 - 20% thicker than women. Men's skin has a higher proportion of well-connected collagen fibers. This more stable skin support structure has the advantage that men's skin has greater elasticity. Women's skin, on the other hand, is generally thinner and more prone to wrinkles. Visible wrinkles as a "sign of time" usually appear later in men.

Stimulated by testosterone, men have an increased production of sebum. Men's skin produces about twice as much sebum every day as women's skin, which also has far fewer sebaceous glands. Men therefore have to deal with large-pored, oily skin and blemishes more often.

The shaving area on the face is particularly stressed for men. Daily shaving exposes the skin to increased irritation, which can lead to irritation, redness or razor bumps.

Do men really need special facial care products?

While in the past only soap and water were used for male facial care, this has changed completely. It is now known that the vast majority of soaps contain aggressive surfactants that wash away the protective skin oils. They attack the skin barrier and dry out the skin. While awareness of the importance of good facial care for men is growing, the focus is no longer on choosing a typically masculine scent, as it used to be. Instead, it is about high-quality, natural active ingredients for long-term healthy male skin with a youthful appearance.

Even though male skin is usually thicker and oilier than female skin, it basically has the same needs. And these depend on the skin type and the individual skin condition of each person. After Shave Tonic or Fluid – refreshes and soothes the skin after shaving

Unfortunately, most aftershaves contain drying alcohol. As an alcohol-free alternative, we recommend the Bio Magnolia Toner Sensitive, which is based on hydrating aloe vera juice. The toner contains soothing chamomile, anti-inflammatory magnolia bark and hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid, the body's own active ingredient, not only works against wrinkles, but also against redness or inflammation, such as those caused by daily shaving.
