Layering - the perfect order for your facial care
For optimally cared for skin
Well-cared skin is not only an important factor for a good appearance. It also ensures that you look healthy and feel better. The right skin care routine is important in order to treat the different skin needs with the right skin care products.
all-in-one skin care
Who hasn't experienced this: In the morning, when you have to rush, there's only enough time for minimalist skin care: All-in-one products as a time-saving skin care option are the first choice. A mild facial cleanser, followed by a day cream - and you're done. The important thing here is to use as few, as natural ingredients as possible and no unnecessary additives such as alcohol, emulsifiers, fragrances or preservatives that can irritate or inflame the skin.
Layering for maximum effect
The morning and evening beauty routine with the layering method from the Far East requires a little more time. Layering skin care has been practiced there for a long time, especially in Japan and South Korea. Several care products are applied in layers on top of each other in a fixed order. The aim of the method is to achieve well-hydrated, plump skin with a glow.
The individual products are coordinated so that the active ingredients complement each other perfectly. The layering method is comparable to a modular construction system. With the right application - individually adapted to your skin type and your current skin situation - you can achieve several times greater effectiveness than with conventional individual care products. The optimal order of application is crucial so that the ingredients reinforce each other.
The perfect order in facial care: from light to heavy
The optimal order in which you apply your facial care depends on the consistency of the products - from light to heavy. So, after cleansing your face, start with the lightest product:
Step 1: Cleanser
Whether a mild cleansing cream or a cleansing oil is the better choice for your facial cleansing depends on whether you only want to remove excess sebum and dirt or also waterproof make-up. Of course, the cleanser should be tailored to your individual skin type. Avoid facial cleansers with surfactants, as they dry out your facial skin unnecessarily and weaken the skin barrier.
Peeling: not for sensitive skin
A peeling is often recommended as the next step in skin care, but this is definitely not suitable for sensitive skin. A peeling does smooth the surface of the skin immediately and makes the complexion appear even. However, it puts a lot of strain on the skin and weakens the skin barrier and the acid mantle.
The rest of your facial care routine depends on the consistency of the products - from light to heavy. So, after cleansing your face, start with the lightest product:
Step 2: Toner
The toner , also known as a tonic, tonic or facial water, is the perfect transition between cleansing and care. The toner should be free of alcohol so that your skin does not dry out. The most important advantages of a toner: It stabilizes the acid mantle, refreshes, clears impurities and soothes irritations. The Magnolia Toner also contains hyaluronic acid and beta-glucan to provide your skin with deep moisture and to prevent inflammation.
After cleansing your face, spray the toner onto a cotton pad and then gently spread it over your face and neck in circular movements. A toner is also ideal for setting makeup or moisturizing your face several times throughout the day as needed. After using the toner, your skin is optimally prepared to absorb active ingredients.
Step 3: Serum
After the toner, the highly concentrated active ingredients of a facial serum are optimally absorbed by the cleansed and moisturized skin. Depending on your individual skin type, skin condition and the most important goals of your skin care, we recommend additional active ingredient facial serums:
- Hyaluron Serum 300 : firms and tightens the skin, contains high-dose oligo-hyaluronic acid with a deep effect and depot effect.
- Brightening Vitamin Serum : for accelerated regeneration of mature skin and a youthful glow, with the highly effective antioxidant vitamins ACE + B3.
- Bakuchiol Serum : increases the body’s own collagen production, ensures a more even complexion and improves skin structure,
- Anti-Pollution Serum : protects against harmful environmental influences such as fine dust particles or blue light, which accelerate skin aging, with Ectoin.
- Copaiba Blemish Serum : intensive special care against pimples and acne,
- Magnolia Calming Serum : increases skin moisture, soothes hypersensitive skin and redness.
Extra tip: Combine several facial serums
All myrto facial serums can be perfectly combined with each other and can be variably integrated into your facial care routine. The general rule is: apply the light aloe vera-based serums first, then, after a short exposure time, apply the serums with a higher oil content.
Which active ingredient serums you combine depends on your skin's needs. For example, after the Hyaluron 300 Serum, you can apply a protective serum against harmful environmental influences or give your skin a natural glow with an extra portion of vitamins.
If your skin doesn't like richer creams in the warmer months, you can use the Anti-Pollution Serum or the Calming Serum as solo care instead of a day cream. Our favorite as a light, deep-acting overnight care product with a visible anti-aging effect is the Brightening Vitamin Serum.
Step 4: Eye care
The thin, sensitive skin around the eyes dries out particularly quickly. If you suffer from dry skin, special eye care is recommended. The coordinated ingredients in the Argan Eye Serum are free from irritating additives such as fragrances or alcohol. They moisturize the sensitive skin around the eyes, prevent burning eyes and prevent wrinkles. They reduce swelling and dark circles under the eyes.
Step 5: Day cream and night cream or face mask
In the next step, you apply a face cream that is suitable for your skin type. This encloses the serums. It is a good idea to use a special day and night cream, as both have different objectives.
A day cream with ingredients that are as similar to skin as possible ensures that the skin does not dry out, is protected from harmful environmental influences and the skin barrier is strengthened. All 3 myrto day creams are ideal as a make-up base.
A night cream or face mask primarily supports the regeneration process of cells. It supplies your skin with a high concentration of nourishing active ingredients. The texture of the night cream or face mask is richer and heavier than that of the day cream. While the Soothing Mask primarily soothes your skin and provides it with additional moisture, the Glow Mask revitalizes your tired complexion and ensures an even skin tone.
Note that you only need a small amount of each product when layering: apply the individual layers very thinly so that your skin is not over-cared for. The big advantage of this method is that you can respond to your skin's needs in a targeted and flexible manner depending on the condition of your skin and the time of year. So if you need richer care in winter, apply the facial oil as the last layer. In summer, however, when your skin needs moisture above all else, a generously applied moisturizing serum can be enough for youthful, beautiful, healthy skin.
Step 6: Facial oil or oil serum
For every skin type, a facial oil is recommended as the final step in facial care - perhaps instead of a cream. For dry skin, a nourishing facial oil provides a breathable seal for the moisturizer, which at the same time gives the skin a natural glow.
For oily skin areas that are prone to blemishes, anti-comedogenic oils are a professional tip. Facial oils with grape seed, argan, tamanu or jojoba oil work particularly well. They bring sebum production into balance in the long term and influence the composition of the skin's own lipids (sebum). This deprives the bacteria that cause pimples of their breeding ground.
Facial oils as a concentrated active ingredient treatment in the evening lock the moisture from the serum into your skin. Their polyunsaturated fatty acids stimulate cell renewal. Additional antioxidants ensure that your skin looks gently smoothed and well-rested the next morning.
Step 7: Sunscreen
During the day, a light sunscreen forms the last layer of layering. The Protective Sunshine Day Oil absorbs harmful UV rays from the sun to prevent premature wrinkles and skin damage. It contains a high dose of karanja oil with natural sun protection as well as powerful antioxidants - with no whitening effect and no nanoparticles. You can apply the protective oil serum drop by drop or add 1 to 2 drops to the day cream to protect your skin from light to normal sun exposure.
For intensive sunbathing or extensive summer outdoor activities, you should also apply a high-strength mineral sunscreen. Apply this as the last layer. Otherwise, the ingredients of the other products cannot be absorbed by the skin.
Conclusion
The optimal facial care routine consists of several steps. It does require a certain amount of time. The drier your skin feels, the more layers you should apply. However, you don't necessarily have to follow every single care step in your individual layering routine. You can also simplify the steps.
Important to know: When layering, you only need a small amount of each product: apply each layer very thinly so as not to over-care for your skin.
The big advantage of layering is that you can respond to the changing needs of your skin individually and flexibly, depending on the condition of your skin and the time of year: If your skin needs richer care in winter, apply a facial oil over serum and skin cream as the last layer. In summer, however, when your skin needs moisture and fewer lipids, a light moisturizing serum alone can be sufficient for healthy and youthful skin in the long term. The general rule is: first use light and water-based products, then milky and oil-based products.
