Cosmetics without palm oil – why?
mass product palm oil
In recent decades, the food and cosmetics markets worldwide have been flooded with products made from palm oil. Palm oil is the cheapest and most widely used vegetable oil in the world. According to studies by WWF and Greenpeace, palm oil is now found in every second supermarket product.
Fatal Trend
Palm oil products are not only bad for the environment, they also drive the destruction of the rainforest and the extinction of many plant and animal species (e.g. orangutans, tigers). The working conditions in the huge palm oil monocultures are also undignified and harmful to health, and workers receive starvation wages. Since 2016, the EU Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has been warning about so-called glycidyl fatty acid esters in palm oil products. These health-hazardous substances are created in high concentrations during the industrial refining of palm oil at temperatures of up to 240 degrees. Studies have classified glycidyl fatty acid esters as mutagenic and carcinogenic.
While it now has to be declared in food products, palm oil in natural cosmetics is still hidden behind various, sometimes changing names. This makes it almost impossible for consumers to identify and avoid processed palm oil in cosmetics. Many of the emulsifiers, fatty alcohols and esterified lipids used from refined palm oil are also considered comedogenic, ie they promote skin impurities such as blackheads, pimples and acne.
Responsible Alternative
There are a number of important reasons to counteract this trend with an alternative and to take responsibility now:
It's also possible without palm oil! With this in mind, all myrto creams and conditioners are not made with emulsifiers from palm oil, but on the basis of an innovative, emulsifier-free concept.
Instead of consistency-giving fatty alcohols and ester oils from refined palm oil, myrto uses natural, cold-pressed organic vegetable oils and butters with their full spectrum of effects.
In order to achieve maximum quality and at the same time a minimal ecological footprint, we produce our exclusive natural cosmetics in small quantities with a lot of manual work in our own factory - far away from industrial mass production.
