Vanilla extract ( Vanilla Planifolia Extract)
Real vanilla (Vanilla Planifolia) is obtained from the fruit of a beguilingly fragrant orchid species with yellow-white flowers. It is originally native to the light shade of the tropical forests of Central America. Today, sustainable vanilla cultivation is carried out by hand, using laborious labor, mainly in Indonesia, La Reunion and Madagascar. The noble, subtle scent of real vanilla consists of more than 250 individual components and should not be confused with the inferior, rather harmful synthetic "vanillin". Real vanilla is the epitome of warmth and security, stimulates sensuality, and melts away restlessness and irritability.
The Aztecs were already aware of the many positive effects it has on the body and used vanilla not only to increase physical endurance, but also specifically to improve their brain performance. Vanilla was an important ingredient in the Aztec power drink "Xocoatl", a type of spiced cocoa drink with water, of which the ruler Montezuma is said to have drunk 50 cups a day. Aztec women rubbed their bodies with vanilla pods to stimulate sensuality. Today we know that the scent composition of vanilla is very similar to human sexual attractants.
In our traditional medicine, the strong calming effect of vanilla was also used to treat strained nerves, general restlessness and sleep disorders. The healing effect of the extract on fungal skin diseases, inflammation and bacterial infections is less well known. Real vanilla can be used as a supportive treatment for eczema or neurodermatitis.
The oily vanilla extract we use comes from controlled organic cultivation in Madagascar, where the plants with their characteristic pods are cultivated by hand and through laborious processing lasting weeks. Of course, no pesticides are used. The valuable, antioxidant-effective ingredients remain authentic and highly pure thanks to the gentle CO2 extraction method without solvents.
