West Indian sandalwood oil
West Indian sandalwood oil ( Amyris Balsamifera Oil) - wild collection
West Indian sandalwood oil is extracted from the resin of an evergreen tree that grows wild on the mountain slopes of Haiti and other Caribbean islands. The deciduous tree, also known as the balsam tree, bears small white flowers. The tree only produces the sought-after essential oil when it is around 30 years old. West Indian sandalwood oil is not to be confused with the increasingly endangered Indian sandalwood oil (Santalum album), which traditionally came from the area around Myosore. Essential sandalwood oil is extracted through steam distillation and is known to be anti-inflammatory and wound-healing. Sandalwood oil strengthens the immune system and supports the regeneration of skin cells. In the psychological area, sandalwood oil has a balancing effect on stress, is calming and antidepressant. It has a warm, aphrodisiac and spicy woody scent that lasts for a long time.
