lactic acid
lactic acid
The 100% vegan lactic acid, also called lactate, is obtained biotechnologically through the fermentation of sugar or starch. Lactic acid occurs naturally in beer, whey and other dairy products. As part of the diet, lactic acid supports healthy intestinal flora and stabilizes our immune system.
In natural cosmetics, lactic acid is considered an effective and extremely skin-friendly care product for sensitive skin - even if the term acid initially suggests an aggressive substance. Lactic acid is one of the so-called alpha hydroxy acids, known as AHA acids for short. Here are the most important advantages:
- Lactic acid stabilizes the delicate balance of the skin flora at a slightly acidic pH value of approx. 5.0 to 5.5. It strengthens the skin's protective acid mantle, which helps to ward off harmful substances from the outside.
- Lactic acid, the mildest of all AHA acids, dissolves dead skin in the epidermis through an extremely gentle peeling effect.
- Lactic acid naturally inhibits the growth of microbial germs.
- As one of the skin’s natural moisturizing factors (NMF), lactic acid ensures that skin cells can better bind and store moisture.
- Lactic acid also stimulates the formation of new ceramides and collagen fibers in the connective tissue. This means that damaged skin cells are regenerated quickly and effectively. The skin appears more even and gently smoothed.
Lactic acid is an active ingredient in a variety of myrto products – both in facial care and in hair and body care.
