Hydrogenated Phosphatidylcholine
Phosphatidylcholine is a component of biomembranes and a highly effective plant-based active ingredient. At the same time, phosphatidylcholine functions as a skin-identical emulsifier that replaces conventional, skin-damaging emulsifiers. Phosphatidylcholine enables the formation of so-called derma membrane structures (DMS) in emulsifier-free DMS Face Creams.
Phosphatidylcholine is extracted from soy or sunflowers. Phosphatidylcholine is a natural main component of cell membranes. On the ingredients list you will find phosphatidylcholine under the name "Hydrogenated Lecithin" if it has an active content of up to 90%. The hydrogenated, i.e. saturated, form is a more stable form of unsaturated phosphatidylcholine. At myrto we use highly concentrated phosphatidylcholine from sunflowers with an active content of well over 90% phospholipids. This particularly valuable form of PC is hidden behind the INCI name "Hydrogenated Phosphatidylcholine".
Phosphatidylcholine is difficult and time-consuming to process, and also very expensive. This exquisite natural cosmetic ingredient is therefore hardly known to date; it is mainly used in dermatologically oriented skin care products for problem skin.
These are the most important advantages of phosphatidylcholine:
-
Strengthening the skin barrier
Phosphatidylcholine is integrated directly into the lipid bilayer of the skin barrier to strengthen it. Phosphatidylcholine thus improves the function and structure of the skin barrier. This structure also includes ceramides and other lipids, which together optimize the skin's barrier properties. A strong skin barrier can retain moisture better (less water loss through the skin / TEWL) and is less susceptible to environmental stressors such as pollutants in the air or increased UV exposure.
-
Precursor of ceramide synthesis
Phosphatidylcholine provides essential fatty acids required for the synthesis of ceramides. It also stimulates the activity of enzymes required for the production of ceramides. -
Liposome formation for deep penetration of active ingredients
Phosphatidylcholine is a main component of liposomes used in skin care to deliver active ingredients more efficiently and increase their stability. Phosphatidylcholine serves as a carrier for other active ingredients and improves deep penetration. This leads to more effective absorption of active ingredients in the deeper layers of the skin.
-
moisturizing effect
Phosphatidylcholine has moisturizing properties to keep the skin hydrated. This results in a smoother, softer and more refined complexion. -
Slow Aging
By making the skin more elastic and firmer, phosphatidylcholine helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles. -
Acne treatment
Phosphatidylcholine has sebum-regulating properties. It therefore supports the treatment of acne, impure and oily skin conditions.
-
Anti-inflammatory properties
The soothing and anti-inflammatory properties of phosphatidylcholine help reduce skin irritation and redness. -
Skin repair
Phosphatidylcholine supports the regeneration of skin cells. It helps to repair damaged skin and promotes the healing process.
Phosphatidylcholine is contained in all myrto Bio DMS Face Creams, as well as in some of the myrto Bio Face Serums.
