Traditional use of the hemp plant
The hemp plant (Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil) originates from Central Asia and is one of the oldest cultivated plants. It was cultivated in China and Persia around 12,000 years ago. In addition to its traditional use as a natural fiber for clothing, rope and canvas, hemp is also consumed as an intoxicant because of its content of the cannabinoid THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). Intoxicating cannabis products like marijuana or hash are made from the mature, dried female buds of the hemp plant. They are psychoactive, which means they have a massive impact on the psyche.
Hemp Oil and CBD (Cannabidiol)
In addition to the intoxicant THC, the cannabinoids also include the active ingredient cannabidiol, or CBD for short. CBD or hemp extract oil is also extracted from the hemp flowers. In contrast to marijuana, only hemp varieties that are free of THC are used. CBD oil is used in alternative medicine because of its soothing effects on chronic pain such as joint pain in arthrosis and arthritis, asthma, multiple sclerosis or the side effects of cancer chemotherapy (nausea, vomiting). Drugs with CBD have been approved in Germany without a prescription since 2017. However, so far there have been no studies on the long-term side effects of CBD, for example on the hormone system.
Hemp seed oil in facial care
Cannabis seed oil also plays an important role in cosmetics. In conventional cosmetics, the vegetable oil is heated to high temperatures, deodorized and refined so that it is odorless and tasteless and no longer has any colorings. The advantage for the cosmetics manufacturer is a high oil yield, a lower price and a long shelf life of the oil. With gentle cold pressing, on the other hand, the oil yield is significantly lower. 10 kg of hemp seeds yield only about 3 kg of valuable cannabis seed oil, which has a legal maximum THC content of 0.3%. The slightly greenish oil smells pleasantly fresh of cut grass and is suitable for facial care for sensitive, irritated and impure skin.
Hemp seed oil for skin problems
The hemp seed oil we use for myrto natural cosmetics comes from regional organic cultivation. It is obtained by gentle cold pressing of the seeds. The valuable secondary plant substances, vitamins and the sensitive unsaturated fatty acids are fully retained. These ingredients of hemp seed oil are particularly important for skin care:
-
Gamma Linolenic Acid - This polyunsaturated fatty acid improves the skin's ability to retain moisture and ensures a beautifully smooth complexion. This makes hemp seed oil ideal for irritated, dry, reddened and irritated skin.
Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids - These essential unsaturated fatty acids are present in the cold-pressed hemp seed oil in an ideal ratio of 1:3. The skin-like fatty acid pattern strengthens the skin's natural protective acid mantle and makes it more resistant to damaging environmental influences. -
Phytosterols - These phytochemicals in hemp seed oil reduce inflammation and soothe itching. Hemp seed oil is therefore particularly recommended for impure skin, acne, neurodermatitis and psoriasis / psoriasis.
-
Antioxidants - They fight cell-damaging free radicals and delay skin aging for a visible anti-aging effect. Hemp seed oil mainly contains regenerating vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol), vitamin B1 and beta-carotene.
Zinc, iron, calcium, copper, magnesium and potassium - These trace elements in hemp oil stimulate the renewal of collagen fibers and ensure firm, taut skin.
